Taking card payments in Durham

Durham packs a lot of trade into a small, hilly city centre. Between the Market Place, Elvet Bridge, Saddler Street and the Bailey, cafés, pubs and independent shops serve students, residents and visitors to the Cathedral and Castle.

We set up Teya card machines for Durham businesses and keep things straightforward — the right kit for your counter, quick payouts, and a real person to phone.

Term-time rushes

Durham University term times bring heavy, concentrated trade. Fast tap-and-go approvals keep coffee queues and bar service moving.

Regatta, Miners' Gala and Lumiere

Big event days — Durham Regatta, the Miners' Gala and the Lumiere light festival — fill the streets. Portable 4G machines let you trade from a stall or doorway without depending on busy Wi-Fi.

Old buildings, patchy signal

Thick stone walls can upset connections. Teya machines can switch between Wi-Fi and 4G, so a weak signal in one part of the shop doesn't stop sales.

Quieter months

When students leave for the summer, Instant Settlements and the Teya Business Account help you keep a close eye on cash flow.

Card machines in Durham: common questions

Do you cover County Durham as well as the city?

Yes — Durham city, Chester-le-Street, Bishop Auckland, Consett, Seaham and the rest of County Durham.

Is Teya suitable for a small café or shop?

Yes. Many of the businesses we set up are single-site independents. We'll recommend a machine that fits how you actually trade.

How do I get pricing for my Durham business?

Leave your details and we'll be in touch to talk it through.

Do you cover businesses in the Bailey, Elvet Bridge and the Market Place, Durham?

Yes. Business Genie Payments sets up Teya card machines for businesses across Durham, including the Bailey, Elvet Bridge and the Market Place, and the wider County Durham. Quotes are arranged by phone or a booked call, so you don't need to visit an office.

Which Durham businesses do you set card machines up for?

Locally we most often help cafés, pubs and independent retail. Any business taking card payments in Durham can ask for a bespoke Teya quote based on its monthly card turnover.

I also trade in Chester-le-Street and Bishop Auckland. Can you cover that too?

Yes. Many Durham businesses also trade in nearby towns such as Chester-le-Street, Bishop Auckland and Washington, at markets or at events. Tell us every site you trade from and we'll quote for the whole setup. Teya Lite and Teya Go can connect over 4G as well as Wi-Fi, which suits trading away from your main premises.

Are there guides for my type of business in Durham?

Yes. There are Durham guides for restaurants, pubs & bars, cafés & coffee shops, retail shops, hair & beauty salons and takeaways, linked further down this page.
