Taking card payments in York

York trades on visitors. Between the Shambles, Stonegate, Micklegate and the walls, a lot of small independent shops take a steady stream of contactless, Apple Pay and overseas cards — often for low-value items where a slow terminal costs you the sale.

We set up Teya card machines for York tea rooms, gift shops, pubs, guesthouses and market traders, and we keep the setup simple: the right machine for your counter, money in your account fast, and one person to call if anything needs sorting.

Shambles and city-centre gift shops

Narrow, busy shops with queues out the door at weekends. Teya Pro is built for quick contactless, chip & PIN and mobile wallet payments.

Christmas markets and festival weekends

St Nicholas Fair, the Jorvik Viking Festival and race days at the Knavesmire bring sharp peaks. Portable machines with 4G mean stalls and pop-ups can trade without relying on shared Wi-Fi.

Tea rooms and pubs with table service

Take payment at the table rather than walking cards to the till. Splitting bills is quick, and tips go straight through the machine.

Seasonal cash flow

Teya settles card takings the next working day as standard, and qualifying businesses can choose everyday or Instant Settlement options, with conditions and in some cases an extra charge.

Card machines in York: common questions

Can York shops accept overseas tourist cards?

Yes. Teya machines take Visa, Mastercard and contactless wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, so international visitors can pay the same way they do at home.

Do you cover the whole of York?

How quickly can I get a card machine in York?

Once your application is approved, machines are usually with you within days. Call us and we'll give you a realistic date for your business.

Do you cover businesses in the Shambles, Bishopthorpe Road and Micklegate, York?

Which York businesses do you set card machines up for?

Locally we most often help tourism retail, tea rooms and pubs. Any business taking card payments in York can ask for a bespoke Teya quote based on its monthly card turnover.

I also trade in Harrogate and Castleford. Can you cover that too?

Yes. Many York businesses also trade in nearby towns such as Harrogate, Castleford and Goole, at markets or at events. Tell us every site you trade from and we'll quote for the whole setup. Teya Lite and Teya Go can connect over 4G as well as Wi-Fi, which suits trading away from your main premises.
